About Melinda Whittington

Soprano Melinda Whittington made her NCO debut as Ada in Jennifer Higdon and Gene Scheer’s Cold Mountain. Recent performances include Tatyana in Eugene Onegin at Opera Carolina, Juliette in Roméo et Juliette with Pensacola Opera and Opera Birmingham, Contessa Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro with Opera Grand Rapids and Opera Carolina, and the title role of Arabella with Pittsburgh Festival Opera. 
 
She has also appeared at Arizona Opera as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni and the title role in Rusalka, Utah Opera for Donna Anna, Ash Lawn Opera as Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, Kentucky Opera as the Contessa Almaviva, Greensboro Opera as Micaëla in Carmen, Green Mountain Opera as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, and Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi with Opera Carolina. 
 
During her two summers as a Filene Young Artist at Wolf Trap Opera she sang Marie Antoinette in Corigliano’s The Ghosts of Versailles and Micaëla and presented a recital in collaboration with the Phillips Collection. She returned to Wolf Trap for a birthday concert celebration honoring composer John Corigliano.  
 
Ms. Whittington has also appeared with Opera Philadelphia, Philadelphia Sinfonia, Back Bay Chorale, and the Carolina Symphony. She is a former Resident Artist of the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia and a former participant in the Merola Opera Program with San Francisco Opera. She holds a Master of Music degree from the University of North Carolina Greensboro and a Bachelor of Music from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
