Music by Camille Saint-Saëns
Libretto by Ferdinand Lemaire
Based on the Book of Judges
Sung in French with English surtitles

Mighty Samson can single-handedly kill a thousand men, but no one knows the source of his great strength. Enter the beautiful Delilah, the one woman who will do whatever it takes to learn his secret and bring him down. This concert presentation of the Biblical story features a stellar cast and exquisite music by the great French composer Camille Saint-Saëns, including Delilah’s seductive aria "Mon cœur s'ouvre à ta voix.”
Saint-Saëns initially conceived Samson and Delilah as an oratorio.  This is how it was first performed in both France and England – that is, in a concert setting, with singers, chorus, and orchestra, but without sets or costumes.  As the opera has relatively little stage action, this suits the piece very well.  North Carolina Opera is presenting the opera this way, in concert format.

Samson and Delilah is generously sponsored by Ross Lampe, Jr. Sitelink Software.

The performance will last 2 hours and 30 minutes, including one intermission.
