Mission + History

North Carolina Opera was formed in 2010 from the merger of The Opera Company of North Carolina and Capital Opera Raleigh. It is dedicated to presenting operatic performances at the highest level throughout the Triangle. We also have a robust education program that brings opera to schools across Wake County and surrounding counties. North Carolina Opera brings international level artists to Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, and also engages the best in local Triangle talent.  In our first six seasons, we have presented a wide range of repertoire, from Handel and Mozart to John Supko, D.J. Sparr, and Philip Glass.  NCO has presented the local premieres of works by Wagner, Verdi, Britten, and Dvorak.  Please see our production archive for information on our past shows.
The mission of North Carolina Opera is to enhance the cultural life in the Triangle by presenting the highest possible quality professional opera performances, developing and increasing an appreciation of the opera art form in the area, and providing local artists with the opportunity to develop their talent.
